Felix Klein Colloquium: Topological adventures in neuroscience
Over the past decade, and particularly over the past five years, research at the interface of topology and neuroscience has grown remarkably fast. Topology has, for example, been successfully applied to objective classification of neuron morphologies and to automatic detection of network dynamics. This talk focusses on the algebraic topology of brain structure and function, describing results obtained by members of the speaker's lab in collaboration with the Blue Brain Project on digitally reconstructed microcircuits of neurons in the rat cortex. The speaker will also describe their on-going work on the topology of synaptic plasticity. The talk will include an overview of the Blue Brain Project and a brief introduction to the topological tools that are used.
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Kathryn Hess Bellwald, EPFL, Lausanne, Schweiz
Time: 17:15 - 18:30 o'clock
Place: Building 48, room 210
The lectures of the Felix Klein Colloquium will be held at 17:15 in room 210 of the Mathematics Building 48. Beforehand - from 16:45 - there will be an opportunity to meet the speaker at the colloquium tea in room 580.
