Abstract:

Let G be a finite group of Lie type dened over Fq, where q is a power of a primep. We discuss some methods about the problem of parametrizing the set Irr(U) of the irreducible characters of a Sylow p-subgroup U of G. We then mention some joint results with Goodwin, Magaard and Paolini about the parametrization of Irr(U) when G is of small rank, including the exceptional types F4 and E6.
