RTG 1932 solemnly opened
On May 6, 2014, the official opening ceremony of the research training group 1932 "Stochastic Models for Innovations in the Engineering Sciences" took place at the Rotunde (Building 57) and was well-attended.
A welcoming speech by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Norbert Wehn, emphasizing the challenges of interdisciplinarity and the new approach the RTG is taking in the joint education of mathematicians and engineers was followed by an introduction by Prof. Dr. Ralf Korn, spokesman of the RTG, who explained concepts, goals and visions of the research training group.
Keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Peter Maaß (Bremen University) who, in his speech on "Sparsity Concepts, Mathematical Principles and Applications in the Field of Micro Metal Removal", referred to difficulties as well as to the success and the scientific appeal of long-term co-operations between mathematicians and users.
