Our participation in the AlgoEarth workshop
We were invited to participate in the AlgoEarth Workshop: Learning from Limited Data in Earth System Science – Optimal Selection of Datasets and Methods, held from 5–7 November 2025 in Cologne.
Within this context, Dr. Davide Bassetti presented our current research in the presentation: “Entropic Learning: A Path to Humble AI.” Moreover, in collaboration with experts from various Earth system science disciplines, we engaged in in-depth discussions on several central research questions, including:
- Optimal data selection and preprocessing: strategies to enhance the information content of sparse datasets and methodologies for integrating heterogeneous data sources.
- Computationally efficient approaches to small-data learning and methods for mitigating overfitting in artificial intelligence models.
- Techniques for assessing and improving the reliability of machine learning systems, including approaches to uncertainty quantification.
- Fundamental challenges arising from the application of AI methods in Earth system research.
