MINT-EC-Girls-Camp – Math-Talent-School in Kaiserslautern 23. - 27.06.2025

The MINT-EC Girls' Camp took place in Kaiserslautern from 23 to 27 June 2025.

The Math Talent School was organised by the  Felix-Klein-Zentrum für Mathematik, the Kompetenzzentrum für mathematische Modellierung in MINT-Projekten in der Schule and the Fraunhofer-Institut für Techno- und Wirtschaftsmathematik ITWM. 

At the Fraunhofer ITWM premises, our working group ran the 'Mathematical models for forests' project.

After an introductory lecture on point processes and an introduction to the statistical software R on the first day, the students worked independently with great enthusiasm.

They modelled the locations of young and old trees using marked point processes in R, and then adapted their model to a real dataset.

On the last day, they presented their impressive results to the other groups.
