Praktikum am Fachbereich Mathematik - Januar 2022
Schülerinnen und Schüler der 9. bis 12. Klasse absolvieren ihr zweiwöchiges Schulpraktikum am Fachbereich Mathematik an der TU Kaiserslautern. Vom 17. bis 28. Januar haben sie die Möglichkeit, spannende Einblicke in die Welt der Mathematik zu bekommen. Neben einem Besuch von Vorlesungen lernen sie mathematische Konzepte kennen, die ihnen in Vorträgen und Workshops von Mitarbeitern und Mitarbeiterinnen des Fachbereichs Mathematik nähergebracht werden. Außerdem arbeiten sie eigenständig an Projekten, um das neu erworbene Wissen anzuwenden.
Die Praktikumsinhalte werden vom KOMMS sowie den Arbeitsgruppen des Fachbereichs Mathematik gestaltet.

Abstract: Majorana theory is an axiomatic framework to study objects related to the Monster group and its 196884 dimensional representation, the Griess algebra. The objects at the centre of the theory are known as Majorana algebras and can be studied either in their own right, or as Majorana representations of certain groups. Inspired by a paper of A. Seress, and joint with M. Pfeiffer, I have developed an algorithm in GAP to construct the Majorana representations of a given group. I will present the methods of this work as well as some consequences and results. I will also discuss future theoretical and computational approaches to the study of Majorana and axial algebras.
